Frequently Asked Questions
IMEI is a 15-digit international identity number for mobile phones or SIM-based devices.
IMEI can be found as follows:
- Dial *#06# from the dial pad of your mobile phone.
- On the original mobile phone box.
- In the “Settings” menu of your mobile phone.
Note: A mobile phone can have multiple IMEIs based on its available SIM (SIM card and eSIM).
IMEI status of a mobile phone can be checked via EIRS as follows:
- Website: www.eirs.gov.kh
- Mobile App: Download “IMEI KH” from App Store, Play Store or AppGallery
- USSD: Dial *1205# and press Send, then follow the instructions
- SMS: Type CHK<space><15-digit IMEI number> then send to 1205
Note: A mobile phone can have multiple IMEIs, so you should check the status of all IMEIs of that mobile phone.
Based on EIRS, a compliant IMEI refers to the 15-digit number that is recognized by GSMA and complies with conditions set by the government.
In contrast, all IMEIs that do not meet the above criteria are non-compliant IMEIs.
Note: Please do not buy any mobile phone or SIM-based device whose IMEI(s) is non-compliant.
“IMEI registered with EIRS” refers to the IMEI that has been recorded in EIRS and is allowed to work in Cambodia.
Mobile phones or SIM-based devices are required to register their IMEIs with EIRS in order to work on mobile network in Cambodia.
Not at all. There will be no impact on mobile phones or SIM-based devices which are active on Cambodia’s mobile network, and all mobile services will continue to work as normal when EIRS is launched.

Non-compliant IMEIs will be allowed to register with EIRS in order to still be able to work on mobile network after official launch of EIRS and until further notification.

From the official launch date of EIRS, registration of IMEI with EIRS will be as follows:
- Every mobile phone or SIM-based device that is active on a Cambodia’s mobile network will have its IMEI(s) automatically registered with EIRS when this system is officially launched.
- Meanwhile, mobile phones or SIM-based devices that are not yet active on mobile network will have their IMEIs automatically registered with EIRS by inserting a local SIM or activating an eSIM on such device, and making a call or sending an SMS to any phone number. The registration will be completed within 72 hours.
All types of mobile phones or SIM-based devices that use SIM(s) of mobile network operators in Cambodia must register with EIRS.

Of course! You can bring mobile phones from abroad to use with SIM of mobile network operators in Cambodia as normal by just following Cambodian laws and regulations.
Tourists who are using SIM of mobile network operators in Cambodia will have the IMEI(s) of their mobile phones automatically registered with EIRS.
Meanwhile, for tourists who are using international SIM, their mobile phones still work as normal with roaming service.

Not at all. IMEI registration is the recording of the identity of a mobile phone or SIM-based device in EIRS and does not require user’s identity.
Of course! EIRS has a feature which can block a mobile phone or SIM-based device that has been lost or stolen via its IMEI. This feature will be launched by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
EIRS gets device information from GSMA and manufacturers. Sometimes, manufacturers use different model name or model number for marketing purpose, so the system might show the official model name or model number, which can differ slightly from what's shown on the mobile phone.

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is an international identity number of SIM-based devices, consisting of 15 (fifteen) digits in below formats:
- The first 8 (eight) digits is Type Allocation Code (TAC);
- The next 6 (six) digits is Serial Numbers (SNR);
The last 1 (one) digit is used to verify the class of IMEI.

Compliant IMEI with EIRS means any device whose IMEI is 15-digit long and has TAC (Type Allocation Code) approved by GSMA. Other criteria will be determined by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC).
Non-compliant IMEI with EIRS means any device whose IMEI is not following above definition of compliant IMEI.
A registered IMEI with EIRS means this IMEI has been recorded in EIRS to be allowed to work in Cambodia.
Device type of smartphone and feature phone shall register their IMEIs with EIRS in order to work with local SIM in Cambodia.
During the amnesty period, IMEI of device will be automatically registered with EIRS free of charge by inserting a local SIM or activating an eSIM on such device, and making a call or SMS to any phone number.
